THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF CANADA FOUNDATION (the “Foundation”) recognizes that your right to privacy is an essential issue. It understands your interest in protecting your personal information while using our facilities, donating to our activities, participating in our services or purchasing our products.
For these reasons, our privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) incorporates the highest standards as set out in federal and provincial legislation across Canada. It confirms our dedication to protecting your privacy and maintaining the trust that you have placed us.
COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
The Foundation is committed to identifying and documenting the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time the information is collected.
We collect personal information for the following general purposes:
to establish and maintain our donor lists:
By donating to the Foundation, you are supporting the National Gallery and its affiliate, the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography in fulfilling their mandates. We deeply appreciate your financial support to preserve and interpret Canada’s visual arts heritage, and we may contact you to inform you of our future endeavours, upcoming fundraising activities or donation drives.
to establish and maintain our mailing lists:
The Foundation may produce new products and services, such as newsletters, magazines and books; or, promote new activities and events such as lectures, conferences and seminars. Our mailing lists are used to inform you of these new products, services and upcoming events in which you may be interested.
to effectively provide services:
The Foundation maintains personal information about you in order to correspond with you. This includes communicating with you to ensure your satisfaction with our services, sending you updates, responding to your inquiries, confirming your participation or reservation in our lectures, conferences or seminars.
to effectively complete transactions:
The Foundation obtains and maintains sufficient personal information from you in order to complete the administration and accounting in relation to any products or services you have ordered.
to better manage our employees:
The Foundation obtains personal information from applicants, volunteers, employees and contractors for administrative or management purposes, such as to establish, manage or terminate an employment relationship.
OBTAINING CONSENT
The Foundation is committed to obtaining your consent for the collection of your personal information and the subsequent use or disclosure of this information, unless otherwise permitted by law.
We will not, as a condition to supplying a product or service, require you to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of personal information beyond that required to provide the product or service. In case of doubt, personal information is deemed to be non-necessary.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer. Please note that the withdrawal of your consent may impact on our ability to serve you and to maintain our relationship.
Note: In certain circumstances personal information can be collected, used or disclosed without your knowledge and consent. For example, legal, medical or security reasons may make it impossible or impractical to seek consent. When information is being collected for the detection and prevention of fraud or for law enforcement, seeking consent might defeat the purpose of collecting the information. Seeking consent may be impossible or inappropriate if you were a minor, seriously ill, or mentally incapacitated. In addition, we may not be able to seek consent if we do not have a direct relationship with you. For example, seeking consent may be impractical for a charity or a direct-marketing firm that wishes to acquire a mailing list from another organization. In such cases, the organization providing the list would be expected to obtain your consent before disclosing personal information. Finally, we may collect information without your consent if the collection is reasonable for the purposes of establishing, managing or terminating an employment or volunteer relationship.
USE AND DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
The Foundation does not use or disclose personal information for purposes other than those for which it was originally collected, except with your consent or as otherwise permitted by law.
In addition, we may use personal information collected from or on behalf of another organization without your consent if you had consented to the use of the personal information by the other organization, and we are using the personal information solely for the purposes for which the information was previously collected and to carry out work on behalf of the other organization.
We may also disclose personal information to another organization without your consent if you had consented to the use of the personal information by us, and we are disclosing the personal information to the other organization solely for the purposes for which the information was previously collected and to assist the other organization to carry out work on our behalf.
COMPLIANCE

CHANGES TO PRIVACY POLICY
The Foundation reserves the right to modify its Privacy Policy at its sole discretion. In particular, the Privacy Officer will periodically review and modify our Privacy Policy in response to developments and changes in privacy law. Any modifications shall be effective immediately upon .publication by any means, including posting on this website.
